This is NOT a government agency.
One of my clients today got a mailing from a group called the “Federal Mortgage Modification Administration.” They have a government-sounding name, a government-seal-looking logo, and a Washington, D.C. address. They purport to offer loan modification services, and it’s clear they are trying to look like a government agency that doesn’t exist. In their letter to my client, they even claim that Congress has granted them authority to modify home loans.
What an interesting mailing address…
Are they for real? Can they really do what they promise? Well, I can tell you this: When I lived in D.C., 611 Pennsylvania Avenue S.E. was a UPS Store. And the web site? Owned by a web design firm in California.
